Things NOT to do in Los Angeles
1. LAX Bound: Flying into LAX may seem exciting (especially if you're into pesty paparazzi trying to snap the Beckhams who are inevitably around the corner) but try to avoid it if possible! Save time and luggage hassles by flying into smaller airports like Burbank, Santa Monica, and Long Beach. You'll be in and out in no time!

2. I must admit, I always feel horrible for tourists who go to Hollywood in hopes of seeing all the "glitz and glamour." Trust me, may-jah disappointment. If you want to see where/ how the 'stars' live, head west on Sunset for a few miles until you see the famous Welcome to Beverly Hills crest. Now we're talkin....!
3. Speaking of Beverly Hills, if you are in maximum tourist mode and want to "oooh" and "ahh" over the ginormous houses, grab a $5 star map and turn it into a fun adventure for you and your friends! This way you'll be able to stop at the celebrity houses of your choice and you'll be able to get out and snap pics whenever/wherever you want.

4. If you watch The Hills and want to live out your inner LC at the likes of Area, Social, and Le Deux, be prepared to possibly get denied entry (if they do it to Diddy and Paris anyone is game)! There are tons of less crowded lounges around Hollywood (check hotels like The Roosevelt and The Sunset Tower Hotel) that will have you just as satisfied, promise!
5. Traffic jam: If it's between 4p and 7p on any given weekday, be sure to avoid the 5, 10, 405, and 101. These are essential for commuters, but if you are just visiting, try canyon roads like Laurel, Cold Water, and Topanga, that can take you from the valley to Hollywood or the beach (or vice versa) in a lot less time. That being said, you will incur traffic here, so just connect your iPod or listen to Ryan Seacrest on KIISFM. You'll get there eventually!

6. Dinner Reservations: While Spago, Nobu, Dolce, and Mr. Chow are all fabulous eats, look for smaller and more quaint restaurants like Joans on Third, Charcoal, or Sushi Dan for a just as fun and yummy experience! Your wallet will thank you!
7. Beach Bum: The Santa Monica Pier and its complimenting beach are lovely, but they're just too crowded! Take the PCH north a few miles to a beach like Zuma (Malibu) for a much quieter and relaxing time.

8. If you are going somewhere that offers valet parking, do not pass them up on their offer. Most places actually valet for 2-3 hours free with validation- which is a lot less than it will cost you to pay and walk yourself!
9. Shopping on Rodeo is one of the best experiences in all of LA, but let's be honest, who can afford the $5K cropped blazer hanging in Versace's window display?! Take a stroll down Rodeo (do the whole pic thing in front of Chanel, Gucci, etc.) and then walk one block east to Beverly Dr. It is just as lovely as Rodeo, but houses stores like Anthropolgie and smaller boutiques that won't break the bank. It's a win win!
Photos: Funambula, FyeasknybtchWell that was fun! If you have time this weekend or next week, I invite you to post the top things not to do in your town! I'd love to read everyone's lists- I think it'd be fun! Be sure to let me know if you do so!
On to the good stuff: what are you up to this weekend?! Any plans?! Have a great time relaxing and spending time with your loved ones, fur babies, friends, etc!

Have a fabulous weekend lovely lady! We're having the dude's first bday party on Sat. You know I haven't been back to LA since I was 16. Why that was almost 5 years ago. Ah ha ha ha ha ha ha. Might be time for another CA trip sometimes soon. : )
LOVE this list!
I tell my friends who visit not to even bother with rodeo, lets just go to robertson..more liklely to see stars too! and if you do want a "trendy resutrant" i still swear by the ivy..its such a great meal.
Great post! Hope you have a good weekend : )
This was such a fun post to read! And you were dead on for each thing! Now I wish I was going to LA this weekend. Have a great one!
ooo thanks so much for posting this list!! it is super helpful to me considering ive never actually been to LA (san diego is my preference), but i am moving there for my fall semester (and am soooo excited!!). i will definitely be using your tips :)

Such an interesting post! Thanks for sharing and have a lovely lovely sunny weekend! x
Ok so I pretty much did all of the not to do list last time in L.A. I am so lame!
Next trip I will follow your advice. LOL!
Great post about LA, loved the reference to the freeways, so true, and such a bugger. I try to avoid but sometimes we just can't :(
Happy weekend to you!
I love this! I can't wait to go to LA...eventually! I'll have to keep this in mind. I've always wanted to do one of those silly star maps!
I have always wanted to got to LA. its like the sparkliest place on the planet!! ne who, thanks kitten for following my blog!!! if u hadn't i would have never found you!! i am adoring this blog to bits and i think this is a start of a wonderful blog relationship!
Your lovely post brought back so many happy memories of my years in LA. Before moving up into the hills (and cool breezes!), we lived in Westwood which used to be the hub of film premieres! I've often wondered if that's still the case or if the show's moved on...!!
Have a wonderful weekend!
xxxLOL LOLA & Nora:)
PS Thanks so much for stopping by my place & yr lovely comment!! Hope you enjoyed the fun we've all had!
Great list and so true! I live in Los Angeles and have to explain these things to out of town guests all the time :)
all great tips! even though we only live an hour or so away, we hardly venture to LA...unless we have a concert, etc. We went in April and are trying to go again this month, so much to do!!
I loved your list (and the accompanying photos!) While I live no where near LA, I've always said that I'll visit there one day. Hope you enjoy your weekend. I'm flying to Chicago for the weekend to go sight seeing and see the Cubs play, very excited about that one!
Good call with Joans on Third...so yummy! As for the beaches, there's also Point Dume (just south of Zuma) and it's free parking!
Wow, I actually learned quite a bit about our home that I didn't know! Parking does suck, but you are definitely right about finding a place that will validate your ticket stub.
Also...I've never been to Malibu. I will have to go there bc Santa Monica does seem crowded when I go there.
What a great list girlie! Thanks!
This weekend just hanging with the BF and relaxing. I hope you have a lovely weekend love! xoxo
So funny. We did the LA thing 11 years ago and did a lot of your nots. Oh well--we loved it. Haven't been back since. You never know. xoxo
great suggestions! i had so much fun in CA when I was there a couple years ago and now with your tips I can't wait to go back!
This is such a great post! I really want to come out there and visit, but have no clue what is and isn't good/bad. I think I might actually save this post somewhere!
I hope you have a great weekend :)
I think part of the reason I am obsessed with all the CA bloggers is because I seriously think I am supposed to be living there...I repeatedly watch movies like Laurel Canyon & imagine myself in a little house there!! LOVE!
I really enjoyed reading every word of this! I try to make an annual trip to California and am fortunate to have a few friends in the City of Angels and in San Diego to basically do all the "what not to dos" for me. Everything you wrote was spot - on and extremely informative. This should be printed out and passed around for all those planning on heading to SoCal.
Wow!
Happy Friday.
what a great post! I really like your blog, thanks for visiting mine :)
Darling, this list is both hilarious and informative, not to mention that I loooove the pics you chose to accompany your sage words. Fab post!

fun post! I will keep that in mind if I ever make it to LA again. I've made a few visits to Cali but only ventured into LA a couple of times. I'm looking forward to having a nice relaxing weekend, a little cooking, a little baking (HELLO chocolate turtle brownies!) a few drinks with friends, etc. Have a fantastic weekend!
Oooh LOVED this post! ;) I have yet to try Charcoal - so I've added it to my list! Have a GREAT weekend!

What a great idea! When I was touring Hollywood last year, I got lucky & avoided most on your list. I'll do a list for Nashville this weekend. Certainly won't compare to LA!!!
Come visit me at my new 'no-wedding' blog - www.myrubyslipperslife.blogspot.com

As an LA girl, I second this post! PERFECT. Joans on 3rd Yumm...and it's all about the Ryan Seacrest in traffic, because it happens! OH and AMEN to valet parking, people-do it! Even at Target in BH! YES in LA we valet park to go to Target.
I am laughing outloud at this because it's so true and you are so cute!! This is going in my favorite posts folder! Love you girl!
What a fun feature idea - love this! Having been to LA many times both for work & play, I can't stress this list enough, particularly the LAX, freeway, and club info.

Oh dear.... you mentioned The Beckhams and that did it. They used to live around the corner to me ( honest ) and she went to the school up the road so we ( everyone who lives around here ) knows a lot about her.....Use your imagination !!!! She is not going to win personality of the year. XXXX
