January Photo a Day

1.07.2012

jan. 5th: something you wore banana republic animal print cardi w/ j.crew baubles

I remember once being moved after reading a story of a man who had snapped a Polaroid photo every day during the latter half of his life. Whether he captured a pair of his socks or a family member's smile, the significance was nestled in the fact that these were pieces, not necessarily moments, which made his life, well, his. Inspired by this simple act of documentary, I've attempted to do the same in minuscule proportion by taking a photo of one thing in my life each day over the course of one year, but I have failed to do so in sequential order, and subsequently started and stopped this project many times. Luckily, I seem to be one of many who would like to achieve such a goal, as my friend Parmie reached out in late December and asked if I'd like to participate in "January Photo a Day" where you snap a photo of something in your life that correlates with the prompted list of subjects for the entire month. I was ecstatic to start this project once more, and thought I'd share a recap of the photos each Saturday on here during the month of January. If you are participating, please let me know! I'd love to see your photos as well.

jan. 4th: letterbox received my mag subscriptions that day - jan. 6th: makes you smile my kitchenaid - jan. 7th: favorite kate spade ny flash flats

I've been loving everyone's photos! What an amazing project. Your KitchenAid is my favorite - especially because mine is plain, boring silver and I am jealous of those with color:)

I think this is a great idea! I opened my iPhoto the other day to discover that my 2011 folder really did not contain much of anything. How disappointing considering it was such a huge year for us. I say STAY snap-happy all year!

Gorgeous photos. Really working on tighter shots, as I'm noticing you're doing. It's so interesting to look at things through the eyes of a lenses.

last year I had made the resolution to take a photo every week and I didn`t last long at all! Looking at this post makes me want to try again this year. I think I`ll switch to daily like you so that I stick with it too.

Such a cute idea. I think more people do this without realizing with our iphones, instagram, etc. (If it isn't everyday, it's pretty close.)

I started doing this last week too! I think having the list is helpful, and it's just so much fun to see the differences in so many pictures of the same things-sort of!

Happy New Year, Annemarie ~ just getting back to blogging this week! What a lovely thing to try to do ~ to take a picture from your life every day for a year but I agree with you, difficult to achieve. I'm never good at journals or diaries, as I am such a perfectionist and my handwriting is never right enough and when I invariably miss a day, I feel like chucking the whole project and I know this one would be difficult too. One month, as yours in January, sounds a bit more manageable! And I'm in LOVE with your tiffany blue Kitchenaid and now I want one too. ;)

I love this idea. I write a quote down every day, especially the ones I find online in this wonderful world of blogger and tumblr. I find constant inspiration everyday from these words!

Pictures, though, will be my next thing. I did that throughout college, and it's been very fun (and funny) to look back at those years. I haven't taken daily, mundane photos like that in awhile, and perhaps should. Thanks for sharing this.
