Talking Fashion w/ 'Hart of Dixie' Costume Designer Meredith Markworth-Pollack

I am so excited to have Hart of Dixie costume designer Meredith Markworth-Pollack talking all things fashion with us on the blog today. Meredith is the genius behind the gorgeously curated looks of Rachel Bilson, Jaime King, and the rest of the beautiful cast on CW's Hart of Dixie, so any advice that she gives in the style department is pure gold in my book! Okay, enough of my rambling...on to the good stuff:

Costume designer Meredith Markworth-Pollack talks Hart of Dixie fashion...

Zoe Hart [Rachel Bilson] and Lemon Breeland [Jaime King] have two distinct styles on the show- where do you shop for each of their looks?
We shop quite a bit online at Shopbop and The Outnet for Zoe which makes sense since that's where she would be doing her shopping while in Alabama. I also like to frequent Barneys for her and Nordstrom for Lemon because they have a great dress selection. We also work with quite a few designers who lend us their samples, such as McGinn, L'Agence, A.L.C, and Rebecca Taylor.

What pieces do you have your eye on this fall and will we see any of these things in upcoming episodes?
We have some great peplum pieces on Zoe this season including Elizabeth and James top and a Zara skirt. We also have some great colored trousers for her including a mustard pair from Phillip Lim. I'm loving bold print dresses as well, which we've used on Lemon. Karen Walker in particular has some beautiful prints.

Lemon [Jaime] wears a lot of beautiful colors and patterns- any tips on how to add color into a wardrobe (especially for us girls who tend to stick to neutrals)?
I'd say try to think outside the box when it comes to color and you'll often surprise yourself. We have this pre-conceived idea about what colors will not work together so we end up not even trying it out but I find sometimes the most unlikely pairs are the ones that look the most chic. I'm also a big fan of using different shades of the same color, especially on Lemon.

Where do you look for inspiration when compiling looks for Hart of Dixie? Any specific magazines, websites, or designer lookbooks?
When we begin a new season I'll pull quite a few tears from fashion magazines to set the tone. My favorites are Elle, Harpers, and C Magazine. But as we continue through the season, I find that quite a bit of my ideas and inspiration will come from shopping and pulling vintage. I do check with WhoWhatWear quite a bit to keep up with NY trends for Zoe.

Lastly, what's your personal fashion motto that you stand by when dressing the cast?
Give it a try, you never know!

Thank you for talking to Brunch at Saks, Meredith!

You can see all the gorge fashion on Hart of Dixie on Tuesdays at 8/7c on the CW :)
