Go Bold: Rooms with Prints, Texture, and Color

This month on Houzz I wrote about bold prints, textures, and bright colors, all of which are certainly hot in the world of design as of late, but can be nerve-wracking to incorporate within your home. If you're anything like me, you've become complacent with all things neutral and traditional, and accessories like a bright throw pillow or a loud geometric rug are avoided like the plague. As with most things, a simple nudge out of your comfort zone is all it takes to become comfortable, which is where I'm currently at with the world of bold interiors: I'm comfortable. Designer Meredith Heron's home is an excellent example of how to marry prints, texture, and color in a space without it feeling like a psychedelic crisis, and after seeing these photos I think I'm ready to step into this colorful dimension that is brighter design.

Love how flowers can brighten a room, or just a fun carpet or dresser can change a room's vibe. Brilliant!

I think bold is great. The only time it's not is when someone takes it to the extreme and goes too far by making everything bold. Strong bold "pops" in the room are of huge interest to me. Thanks!

I quite like the look of bold colors and design, although a part of me is still stuck on whites and neutrals. I love the look of the blue walls in the bedroom image though! Looks lovely.

I love that first image, and all things bold right now. I have a mix of some neutral rooms, and then bold ones.. I guess Im caught in the middle, but since I change like the weather, nothing's too permanent!

I'm kind of the opposite--I shy away from neutrals and am all about color and pattern and pizazz! Which means that my decor is often clashing. :) But I feel much more comfortable and myself when surrounded by wild patterns and lots of personality. These pics you've chosen are great examples!

Bright colours can instantly transform a room and add so much 'happy,' especially yellow! I love the bold dark blue bedrooms + the workspace with the orange desk, so lovely! xx

I love all the colors throughout these rooms and LOVE the drapes in the first photo. DO you know where they are from?

Ann Marie-
It's so funny because since I started blogging, I'm way more into color and prints, and pattern! I'm obsessed with wearing color everyday where used to only wear neutrals. How boring. I'm much happier with a colorful life! Teri
